Leeds donates £20k to Age UK

The donation comes from Leeds’ Caring Saver and Your Interest In Theirs schemes with £10,000 coming from each.

The Your Interest In Theirs scheme works by members agreeing to forego up to 99p of their interest each year. The money is then split equally between the four partner charities, Age UK, Save the Children, Marie Curie Cancer Care and the Leeds Building Society Charitable Foundation.

The second part of the donation comes from Leeds donating 1% of the average balances in all Caring Saver accounts equally between the same four charity partners.

Paul Farthing, director of fundraising at Age UK, said: “The continued support from Leeds Building Society is fantastic and really helps Age UK to continue helping older people. We would also like to thank Leeds’ customers who have signed up to the respective schemes; their donations are greatly appreciated and really do make a difference to people in later life.”

Ian Ward, chief executive of Leeds Building Society, said: “Our Caring Saver is the kind of account that appeals to your head as well as your heart. It offers an attractive rate of interest whatever your investment, plus easy access to your money.

“Charity supporters often make donations straight out of their own pocket and that is where the Caring Saver is different, providing customers with a competitive rate of return on their savings and making a difference to people who really need it at the same time.

“The maximum that can be donated through our Your Interest in Theirs scheme is only 99p per account each year but if all our members participate it adds up to an amount that can make a real difference. The money is split equally between our four partner charities on the same date as the rest of the interest is credited to their account.”
