Staff at Lloyds Banking Group are being asked to work from home until at least Spring 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
As reported by BBC News, the group claimed the decision was in line with guidance from the UK government who recommend work from home measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
This follows the news that Lloyds was to cut 865 jobs to restructure the business.
A majority of Lloyds' 65,000 staff are currently working remotely, however staff continue to work in high street branches.
Lloyds Banking Group includes Lloyds Bank, Halifax, Scottish Widows and Bank of Scotland.
The group encompasses many household names including Lloyds Bank, Halifax, Bank of Scotland and Scottish Widows.
Catherine McGuinness, policy chair of the City of London, told the BBC that she was "disappointed" by the call by government for office workers to return to working from home, and warned the virus was in danger of "crippling the economy".
This announcement from Lloyds follows news that Deloitte would close four UK offices and offer the 500 affected employees work-from-home contacts.
Barclays also told the BBC that "hundreds" of staff based in the UK who had returned to office working would be asked to work from home.
