There are 23,000 homeowners in London who have at least two bedrooms more than they regularly use.
BYSC calculated that one of the rooms could be rented out for a week at a cost of £1,000.
Michael Holmes, TV property show presenter, said that those who are considering renting out a room should inform their mortgage lender and insurance company and make sure safety regulations are met, as well as using a tenancy agreement.
An estimated 900,000 are expected to visit the capital over the course of next year’s London Olympic Games.
With many of London’s hotels already fully booked for the Olympics, renting out properties could solve the problem for the visitors set to flock to the capital during the games.
Greg Marsh, founder and chief executive officer of Onefinestay, said: “We have some great homes near the official Olympics venues (e.g Highbury & Islington and Shoreditch).
“Many of these parts of London have very few or no nearby hotels rooms. We’re finding that visitors coming for the Olympics particularly want to explore and experience real London neighbourhoods while they’re in town.
“Areas like Kensington and Chelsea, Notting Hill and Central London are proving as popular as the parts of East London closest to the main stadium.”
