Jonathan Moore and Michael Maxwell's Manchester based broker has now launched.
Jonathan Moore, former head of credit at Dudley Building Society, has set up Manchester-based broker Maxwell Moore with his partner Michael Maxwell – who previously ran his own broker firm, and currently provides IT and management consultancy for NHS Primary Care organisations.
The firm will be an appointed representative of HL Partnership and Moore said: “After 22 years in one type of role I was really attracted to the idea of exploring something new.
“I’ve got a CeMAP qualification and a background in assisting people with complex needs. I continually use that knowledge.”
Moore said the growing popularity of the Northern Powerhouse worked as an advantage for the start-up and that the pair were keen to capitalise on this advantage.
He explained: “There is no doubt at all that Manchester is a booming city and it has got a very strong brand to it as well.”
Maxwell agreed and hoped the business would form a part of its local environment.
He said: “We want to become known as the go-to mortgage brokerage in the Manchester and Salford area so building ourselves on quality and good service is important.”
Starting a new mortgage business in the current political climate may seem like an unusual plan but there are a number of factors that work in their favour, such as seven out of 10 consumers seeking the services of a broker, said Moore.
He added: “70% is a pretty strong percentage of a large market and is a good factor in our favour.
“I think a lot of customers need brokers to assist them with interpreting the requirements of lenders, because they are often quite complicated.”
