David Fisher, chief executive at the Mansfield Building Society, said: "Nigel is a welcome addition to our board and offers a wealth of top-level experience. He has excellent commercial skills and is familiar with the rigorous standards of corporate governance that need to be applied in organisations like ours.
"We wish his predecessor John Hooton well for the future and thank him for his important contribution to the board."
Hooton, 62, of Mansfield was appointed to the Board in 1982 and has since served on all of its committees.
