The 52-year-old former PricewaterhouseCoopers partner began his accountancy career in 1976 and became a partner with PWC in Newcastle, managing the audit practice until 1999. He has also led a financial services unit for PWC specialising in retail banking and insurance. Based in Manchester, the unit covered the whole of the North of England.
Since last year Richard has worked with North Tyneside Primary Care Trust as Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Finance.
Commenting on his role at the Newcastle, he said: “The financial services market is as competitive as ever but for innovative and forward-thinking organisations such as Newcastle Building Society, the prospects for continued growth are considerable. I trust my knowledge of regulations and technical accountancy skills will contribute to the Society’s success.”
Richard also brings valuable experience across a range of industries.
Chris Hilton, the Chairman of Newcastle Building Society, commented: “In recent years the Newcastle has pursued a policy of diversifying into new business areas, such as offering its core skills and technical expertise to other financial service providers. This strategy, which complements our existing strengths as a traditional building society, is proving enormously successful and I’m sure Richard’s appointment will only add to the success.”
