The bespoke report is offered to all its mortgage completion customers
Melton Building Society has partnered with energy performance certificate (EPC) services provider Vibrant to offer a free EPC Plus survey to all mortgage completion customers, including residential, buy-to-let, further borrowing and product transfer completions.
The mutual said the free EPC Plus report is the first of its kind, and is different from a traditional EPC report as it does not only provide the homeowner with the current energy efficiency ratings on their home and the potential EPC rating, it will also offer a free quotation service through Vibrant’s Upgrade Team.
According to Vibrant’s research, millions of homeowners wrongly believeD that their property was energy efficient, with two-thirds unaware of the EPC rating of their home.
“Home energy efficiency continues to be a challenge across the property market, including for both homeowners and for landlords,” Jamie Hyland, head of product at Melton Building Society, commented. “We are aware of our responsibility as a lender to support borrowers, particularly as the government continue to define future expectations of minimum property requirements.
“This is why Melton have taken the decision to offer a free EPC Plus survey to eligible customers across our range of mortgage types, including product transfers. This report will give the customer access to a host of information about their property, including how they can make improvements and giving access to registered, independent tradespeople to carry out the improvements.”
Hyland believed this was an important step in working towards a more efficient property market, while also saving customers money at a time of increasing costs.
“This initiative also aligns to the great work Melton is doing in support of UN Goal 13 Climate Action, one of our five UN Sustainability Goals we are committed to in 2023,” he continued.
