The lender, which was recently acquired by Portman Building Society, found that men are 50 per cent more likely than women to seek independent financial advice when choosing a home.
The research found that financial advisers are missing out on the female market as women are more likely to go straight to their existing bank or building society. This means that advisers may be losing out the whole market view and thus not being able to tailor their financial portfolio from different providers.
Chris Cummings, marketing director at Sun Bank, said: "It is ironic that women will not seek advice, as they do tend to prefer the face-to-face approach – they are not embarrassed to ask questions as men sometimes are. It seems that by not targeting women effectively, IFA’s could be missing out on valuable business – and women could be missing out on better rates."
