Following the release of the Barker Review interim report a dire need has been identified to increase the supply of affordable housing to accommodate population growth and changing patterns of household formation in England.
Austin Jelfs, Head of Sales & Marketing at Mortgage Trust says, "The shortage of affordable housing in the UK has reached crisis point, but private landlords are playing a valuable part in combating the issue."
"Although we have seen buy-to-let mortgages double since 2000, we are merely a drop in the ocean when it comes to overcoming the shortage of supply for affordable housing. It is not something we can do alone. Mortgage Trust calls on the Government and other lenders to provide affordable, flexible solutions to investors in an attempt to help fill the housing supply gap."
