This is the charity’s second programme, with the first being on track to bring 63 homes into use.
Not for-profit organisations can apply for between £100,000 and £175,000 until 1 November, while empty commercial buildings will also be considered for conversion into homes.
From April 2012 to March 2015 The Department for Communities & Local Government offered local organisations £50m annually to free up empty properties, however the majority Conservative government ruled out its renewal after being re-elected.
Yesterday Aldermre Bank called on the government to spend £450m on converting 20,000 long-term empty properties into affordable homes by 2020.
Lorna Mackie, programme manager for the Nationwide Foundation, said: “We are delighted to be launching a new empty properties funding programme.
“Our previous funding in this area has been very successful and is contributing to the creation of 63 homes for people in housing need.
“This time our fund is even bigger, and with the recent closure of the government’s Empty Homes Community Grants Programme, we know that there are many organisations which have gathered lots of experience in bringing empty properties back into use and are now looking for funding.”
