New mortgage mentoring scheme to launch soon

On the occasion of the International Mentoring Day on Tuesday, January 17, the Association of Mortgage Intermediaries (AMI) has announced the upcoming launch of a new mentoring scheme for the mortgage industry.

AMI and the Intermediary Mortgage Lenders Association, along with a team of volunteers, are currently developing a sector-wide scheme to connect aspiring and existing mortgage professionals with leaders and industry experts for mentoring and reverse mentoring opportunities.

Benefits of mentoring programs highlighted

According to the trade association, these mentoring programs allow people to take ownership of their own personal and professional development, increase confidence, can help improve diversity and understanding, and provide great opportunities for knowledge sharing.

The use of mentoring programs was one of the recommendations from the 2021 AMI Viewpoint report on diversity, inclusion and equity in the mortgage industry to help address barriers to career progression in the mortgage industry.

“Creating open minds, wider opportunities, and building confidence is a core part of any mentoring program,” Robert Sinclair (pictured), chief executive at the Association of Mortgage Intermediaries, commented. “Identifying how you can find the right roles and develop is at the heart of a fulfilling work experience.

“AMI, through its Working in Mortgages website and the soon-to-be launched mentoring program, hopes to build new pathways for a wider group of people to see our sector as a great place to work.”
