N&P was the first lender to launch a ‘green’ mortgage on the high street, with its beneficial rates for carbon-neutral properties.
The market for people who decide to have an individual home built and tailored to their own specification is now estimated to be around 20,000 a year and growing in popularity.
Stephen Penlington, general manager (Residential Mortgages) at N&P, said:
"We are backing the Government's domestic target to reduce CO2 emissions by 20 per cent to below their 1990 level by the year 2010. Self-builders can choose to include higher standards of energy efficiency in their builds, which will save them money in running costs. We'd like to encourage self-builders to
be innovative in their approach to building more energy efficient homes. Even if the latest methods of building are unusual we will try and help."
