From 1 October 2008, landlords offering property for rent will be legally required to provide tenants with an EPC. Failure to comply with the legislation could result in a £200 fine and the landlord being unable to market the property for rent until they obtain the certificate.
The service will be offered across the group's Paragon Mortgages and Mortgage Trust brands and customers will be able to obtain an EPC at a discounted rate via a team of highly-trained Domestic Energy Assessors. Paragon's fast, flexible and effective EPC service will ensure that landlords will be at the forefront of the legislation when it comes into force.
John Heron, Paragon's director of mortgages, said: “Landlords can't afford to bury their heads in the sand when it comes to EPCs - it will be law and they have to comply with it.
“If they don't have an EPC in place by the start of the October deadline then they run the risk of not being able to let the property quickly when looking for a new tenant, and that could result in unnecessarily long void periods.”
