Smith, AMPD’s director of operations, will take up his PMPA role in September and will not go on gardening leave. While in a different role, he will essentially fill the gap left by John O’Brien who quit PMPA in May to move to Newcastle BS.
Smith had been at AMPD for a year, since its formation from a breakaway group of PMPA packagers, rankled by the way the alliance was run.
As managing director, he will report to the PMPA board and its membership and be responsible for PMPA’s strategic direction, building upon its relationships and reputation within the industry, and growing the existing membership numbers.
Smith said: “This is a very exciting opportunity, as the next 18 months will be critical for packagers. I have made an amicable agreement with AMPD. It’s set up its structure now and this gives it an opportunity to decide how it wants to move forward.”
Vic Jannels, chairman of the PMPA, said: “We are delighted that Smith is to join PMPA. His wealth of director-level experience within the mortgage industry should prove to be an invaluable asset.”
Payam Azadi, head of marketing at Mortgage Times, said: “The associations have evolved and a greater level of strategy is needed going forward with how they interact with lenders.”
