Advisers, referred to by the Post Office as “mortgage specialists”, were introduced into five of the Post Office’s larger UK branches in August after feedback from customers who felt they would welcome the opportunity to discuss their mortgage requirements face-to-face before committing to such a large investment.
John Willcock, head of post office mortgages, said: “Finding the right mortgage can be a complex process and this is one of the reasons why we have introduced our specially trained mortgage specialists to assist our customers through the process.”
The service is available to all classifications of customer who will be able to discuss their needs and suitability of products with a “specialist”.
Willcock added: “By introducing mortgage specialists into a further three branches across the network we are taking the next step in fulfilling our ambition to become one of the best providers in the market place and to be a genuine alternative to the established high street providers.”
The Post Office’s online and phone service will continue to serve mortgage customers who don’t live or work near these locations.
It has new mortgage software which will enable customers to find out how much they could borrow and view product features and repayments on screen. Customers can be provided with a printed approval in principle or have the opportunity to submit a full mortgage application.
