Pure Retirement names McLelland as NED

Lifetime mortgage lender Pure Retirement has appointed Phillip McLelland (pictured) as a non-executive director (NED), adding substantial experience to its board-level oversight.

McLelland brings over 35 years of experience in finance and executive roles, having held senior positions at institutions such as Coopers & Lybrand, KPMG, Bradford & Bingley, UKAR, and Provident Financial.

Most recently, he served in a senior role at smart meter supplier Calisen and has been a NED at Furness Building Society since 2016. Since stepping down from a full-time role at Calisen, he has also joined the board of Gatehouse Bank as a non-executive director.

In his new role at Pure Retirement, McLelland will advise on the lender’s strategic direction, monitor industry developments, and provide oversight on product conduct and customer fairness. He will also evaluate the lender’s competitiveness and investor security, with a focus on maintaining quality and transparency in Pure Retirement’s offerings.

“We’re pleased to be adding someone of Phillip’s calibre to our board,” said Paul Carter, chief executive of Pure Retirement. “His considerable experience will undoubtedly help us to continue to grow and solidify our position as one of the country’s leading lifetime mortgage providers.

“More than that, his knowledge and insight will enable us to do so while continuing to keep our customers’ interest front and centre, helping them to achieve their financial goals in a responsible way.”

Commenting on his appointment, McLelland said it was a privilege to be joining a leading operator within the later life lending space and helping to shape its future.

“Having watched both the development of the equity release market, and Pure’s ascension within it, over the past few years has been interesting,” he added. “I’m looking forward to playing a role in the next chapter in Pure’s story going forward.”
