RAW Capital Partners hires head of credit

Specialist lender RAW Capital Partners has appointed Mark Stevens (pictured) as its new head of credit.

Stevens brings over 40 years of banking experience, having held senior roles in both offshore and onshore credit departments at Northern Trust, Butterfield Bank, and Barclays Bank.

In his previous positions, Stevens served on multiple credit and risk committees, managing lending propositions related to property, investments, and direct loans to funds and hedge funds. His responsibilities also included loan recovery and managing operational risks, such as ensuring compliance with the Guernsey Financial Services Commission Handbook and overseeing client file reviews for accounts categorised as PEP, high, and normal risk to maintain quality control.

In his new role, Stevens will optimise processes at RAW Capital Partners, develop teams to better understand and mitigate risks, and contribute to the firm’s product development.

The Guernsey-based firm, through the RAW Mortgage Fund, provides specialist mortgages to foreign nationals and UK expats looking to invest in UK buy-to-let property, as well as mortgages for Channel Islanders. The fund has a nine-year track record of providing investors with up to 8.57% floating annualised returns.

“I’m pleased to welcome Mark to the team,” said Ben Nichols, interim managing director of RAW Capital Partners. “It’s an exciting time for the business, and I’m sure that his extensive experience and expertise in credit risk management will be invaluable as we continue to grow and enhance our service offerings. I’m excited to see how our products and teams develop under his leadership.”

Commenting on his appointment, Stevens said he was excited to join a smaller, dynamic team with big ambitions in a growing environment.

“The speed and flexibility of RAW Capital Partners’ service offerings were key attributes that attracted me to the role,” he added. “I look forward to contributing my experience to the business.

“In a smaller organisation, I believe I can add significant value and help grow the business, taking advantage of the flexibility to make quick decisions free from the complexities often faced by larger banks and financial institutions.”
