Touch ID is available for iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus customers with its mobile banking app.
Stuart Haire, managing director of RBS and NatWest Direct Bank, said: “There has been a revolution in banking, as more and more of our customers are using digital technology to bank with us.
“Adding Touch ID to our mobile banking app makes it even easier and more convenient for customers to manage their finances on the move and directly responds to their requests.
“Our aim is to be the no.1 bank for customer trust, service and advocacy so we want to continue adapting our service based on the valuable feedback we receive from our customers every day.”
RBS and NatWest is the first UK-based bank to offer the service, whereby users will no longer have to remember a password.
The bank said it responded to its online community forum ‘Ideas Bank’ when introducing Touch ID.
A growing selection of its 15 million customers are using technology, as half use online banking and three million use its mobile app every week.
RBS and NatWest has 1.8 million active iPhone users, of which 880,000 use an iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus.
Over 167,000 RBS and NatWest customers use the mobile banking service between 7am and 8am on their commute to work every day.
