Nine out of 12 regions of the saw prices increase on a monthly basis.
East Midlands rents recorded the biggest increase in January – rising by 6.2% from the month before to average at £617, while Scotland’s rents rose by 5.7% to hit £651.
At the other end of the spectrum rents on new tenancies in the North East declined by 2.6% to stand at 5.18%, while they also fell by 1.1% in the West Midlands to average at £635.
Excluding Greater London rents stood at £707 in January, up from £694 in December.
