The agreement will allow the 200,000 members of both organisations to apply to join the other. By becoming a member of RICS (as TechRICS or MRICS), CNG members will gain an internationally recognised property qualification, while CNG will reciprocate by the recognition of RICS members by opening up access to the regulated Italian property markets.
This is another indication that the property industry is moving towards international standard property advice that transcends national boundaries.
Peter Faulkner, president of RICS, and his CNG opposite number, Piero Panunzi, will sign the agreement today.
Faulkner said: "Global commerce creates a requirement for internationally recognised standards of advice in all aspects of property ownership, development and occupation. At least two Italian universities (in Milan and Venice) will be running RICS accredited surveying courses before the end of 2002, unleashing the potential of RICS services in Italy."
