Santander is offering support to their mortgage customers who have lost their homes as a result of the civil unrest.
The British Bankers’ Association said that the industry would do all it could to assist in this difficult time offering services including waiving overdraft fees where possible, extending overdrafts to help deal with emergencies and increase credit limits where applicable.
Angela Knight, chief executive of the BBA, said: “As people rebuild after the riots, they will urgently want the reassurance that their financial affairs are being taken care of.
“The banks are listening to their customers affected by the rioting and are acting quickly to help them return to normality.
“If you have been affected by the riots, please contact your insurer and your bank as soon as you can so they can ensure you receive the assistance you need.”
