Javid succeeds Philip Hammond as Chancellor as Boris Johnson forms his government.
Boris Johnson has named Bromsgrove MP and former Conservative Party leadership rival Sajid Javid as Chancellor of the Exchequer.
Javid was formerly Home Secretary having been in the role since he was appointed by Theresa May in April 2018.
Prior to that he was Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government.
The son of a bus driver had a successful career with with Deutsche Bank and was with Chase Manhattan Bank in the US before that.
Javid refers to himself as a Thatcherite and said during the leadership challenges that he would hold an emergency budget before the 31 October deadline for Brexit.
However if this is in the new Prime Minister's plans is yet to be confirmed.

Part of his remit, should he remain in role, will be to oversee the appointment of the new Bank of England Governor when Mark Carney steps down from the role on 31 January 2020.
His appointment follows a slew of resignations and sackings ofministers who served in ex-PM's Theresa May's cabinet.
