Santander UK announces new head of homes

Santander UK has announced the appointment of David Morris as head of homes, joining the high street lender later this year.

Morris, who has worked in financial services since 2006, started his career at Citigroup, before moving on to roles at Arbuthnot Latham, the Commercial Bank of Qatar, Coventry Building Society and, most recently, Yorkshire Building Society as chief commercial officer.

Reporting to Enrique Alvarez, Santander UK’s chief executive of retail and business banking, Morris will manage a portfolio of around £177 billion assets with 11% UK market share and 1.8 million customers.

His key responsibilities include developing data-driven solutions for the bank’s mortgage customers, driving new mortgage business, and driving the digital strategy in homes.

“I am delighted to welcome David to Santander UK as our new head of homes,” Alvarez said. “He brings a huge amount of experience, most recently in designing and implementing a new mortgage trading strategy at Yorkshire Building Society.

“The team and I look forward to working with him and benefiting from his expertise. I want to thank Aaron Shinwell, who has done an excellent job managing the homes team for the past six months.”

Commenting on his appointment, Morris said he was excited to be taking the new role at Santander to further develop and transform the mortgage proposition for the benefit of both new and existing borrowers.

“I am proud of my achievements at Yorkshire Building Society and their ongoing successes,” he said. “There are lots of opportunities that await me at Santander, and I’m looking forward to getting started.”
