In addition, the critical illness definition for HIV has been extended to include countries outside the EU, which takes this definition beyond the ABI standard; and the total number of critical illness definitions that Scottish Provident cover - classified as ‘ABI plus’ to seven.
Extending the cover with new conditions and increased definitions fits in with Scottish Provident’s strategy of offering, greater choice and flexibility.
Susan Barclay, head of marketing at Scottish Provident, commented: “It is important that we strive to develop quality products that meet our clients’ needs; it’s a changing world and we need to react by having a range of products that reflect today’s society by revising and adding new conditions where necessary.”
The new conditions are: primary pulmonary hypertension; pulmonary artery graft surgery; and structural heart surgery. The improved ABI plus definition is for: HIV – extended to include countries outside the EU.
Other enhancements include: a reprice, which should result in the majority of critical illness cover rates being reduced; a significant reduction of post sale literature following feedback from IFAs, resulting in less paperwork and key information being easier to find; removal of exclusions from Pegasus – for example, claims arising from criminal acts, drug abuse, flying/aviation, or hazardous sports and pastimes; and the number of countries where medical evidence for claims can be accepted has been increased by a further four countries.
