UCB Home Loans, the specialist lender of Nationwide, has released its lending figures for the calendar year which show that self-certification mortgage lending reached £1.12 billion, and the number of mortgages completed increased by 21 per cent to 13,710.
Charles Reed, managing director of UCB Home Loans, said: "True self-certification, where the lender does not take up employment references or look at payslips or accounts, is a very specialist sector of the lending market. Changing work patterns mean that increasing numbers of people fall into this category, where their income is variable, or where they have notbeen trading for long enough to build up three years of audited accounts."
