The popularity of loans taken out by N&P customers on semi-detached properties increased by just over 3 per cent from 30.41 per cent in 2006 to 33.79 per cent in 2007.
Detached properties remain the favourite, though, with the figure increasing by just under 1 per cent to 36.47 per cent in 2007. Terraced homes remain in third position, with just under a quarter of all loans being taken out for terraces.
Martin Bell, N&P’s head of residential lending, said: “Although customers are still preferring detached homes, semis are making a comeback.
"In 2006 the popularity of semi-detached properties dropped but they showed the highest percentage increase in 2007. This could be a reflection of the strong house price growth we saw in the first half of 2007, when maybe customers were having to opt for a semi over a more expensive detached property.”
