With many first time buyers struggling to get on the property ladder it is logical that shared equity schemes should now be looked upon as a possible route onto that all important first rung.
Neil Hoare, Associate Director of Marketing & IT at Pink Home Loans commented that "Housing associations are taking advantage of the abundance of new builds lying vacant and snapping them up bargain prices. The Government has extended its support to housing associations to enable the purchase of such properties. Many lenders on Pink’s panel, including Abbey, Halifax and Skipton, to name but a few, support this initiative. So for those intermediaries that are not including shared equity in their discussions with first time buyers, then perhaps they will be looking at these as a viable method of getting their clients onto the housing ladder."
