Johnson will retain his previous position as managing director of Shawbrook’s commercial mortgages division.
He said: “We launched Shawbrook in 2011 with big ambitions for the Bank, and I’m delighted to take on the role of deputy CEO at the start of a significant new chapter in Shawbrook’s journey.
“In addition to my new role, I will continue to lead the commercial mortgages division alongside a strong and very talented management team.
“We are committed to ensuring our processes, operations and framework are the best they can be for our brokers and customers, and this will continue to be a core focus for the commercial mortgages division in 2015 and beyond.”
Stephen has 12 years' experience in building specialist lending businesses. Before joining Shawbrook he helped found specialised servicer Commercial First, where he established a profile in the intermediary market with a number of loan distributors and wider IFA and mortgage networks.
