In his new role Chris – who has been HR manager since 1993 – will oversee the management of the HR and training functions to support the Society’s future growth and development.
Chris began his career with Forte Hotels in 1983 and, following spells at Ross-on-Wye (Herefordshire) and Heathrow, worked at their head office as brand personnel manager and regional training manager, before moving north in 1993. During his 11-year service with Skipton, Chris has played a significant part in the growth of the Society and the Skipton Group and has been heavily involved in the development of many leading edge HR practices. Highlights include the Society becoming the first organisation in North Yorkshire to achieve the Investors in People (IiP) accolade and the establishment of a coaching and mentoring system. More recently, Chris helped steer the Society to become the first large company in the UK to achieve the IiP Leadership and Management Model National Standard in 2003.
Originally from Hundred House in Mid-Wales, Chris lives in Burley-in-Wharfedale with his wife Sally and three sons. He is a keen footballer, having played for local side Burley Trojans for 10 years, the last five as player manager. He enjoys most other sports including golf, cricket and rugby league.
Commenting on his new appointment, Chris said, “I have thoroughly enjoyed my first 11 years with the Society and, during that time, have seen it grow into a significant player within the UK financial services market. At Skipton people play a key part in our success and we are justifiably proud of our track record in developing staff and creating excellent career opportunities. I am delighted to be given this opportunity to build on the excellent work that we have started and to play a part in ensuring that the Society continues to go from strength to strength in the future.”
