Alison, who works for Spicerhaart Financial Services, decided to raise £1,000 to help build a recovery centre for the charity, which supports wounded servicemen and women, having competed in the Berlin Marathon with a Royal Marine veteran who lost his left foot in the Falklands after standing on a landmine.
Alison said: “I’ve been supporting Help for Heroes since 2008 but after my humbling marathon experience where I witnessed the courage and resilience required to run a marathon as an amputee, I decided that I wanted to do something more.
“As I run those 13.1 miles of the Great North Run, every step will be taken with Help for Heroes in mind. Having seen a definite need for recovery centres, the charity is working hard to raise a further £20 million to build seven across the country, including one in Colchester. As I now work for Colchester-based Spicerhaart, the UK’s largest independent estate agency group, it seemed fitting to be helping to support this project.”
The Great North Run takes place on 20 September in Newcastle.
