It recruits a chief financial officer and chief risk officer
Tandem Bank has announced the appointment of two new senior executives – David McCarthy as chief financial officer (CFO) and Wahid Ali as chief risk officer.
McCarthy (pictured left) joins Tandem from Atom Bank, where he has been CFO for the past eight years, following previous CFO and senior finance roles at Britannia Building Society, Co-Op Bank, and Bank of Ireland. As he assumes his new role, McCarthy also becomes a member of both the bank’s board and executive committee.
Ali (right in picture) joins Tandem from specialist lender Masthaven. He will also join McCarthy as a member of Tandem’s executive committee. He has 20 years of risk management experience from across the banking sector, including holding senior positions at Barclays, RBS, and Al Rayan Bank, as well as the Prudential Regulatory Authority.
Tandem said the arrival of both senior executives underlines its continued momentum and growth as one of the UK’s original digital challenger banks. The bank announced the appointment of Paul Pester as chairman in June and has recently confirmed that deputy chief executive Alex Mollart will shortly step up to become CEO.

“I’m thrilled to have both David and Wahid on board for the next stage of Tandem’s journey to becoming the UK’s greener, digital bank,” Mollart commented. “There’s no question David and Wahid bring a wealth of knowledge, expertise and experience to the Tandem team, as we continue to grow and become the go-to option for customers transitioning to a lower-carbon lifestyle.”
Tandem is positioning itself to be the go-to green bank, helping customers to access finance and practical advice that will help them transition to a lower cost and lower-carbon lifestyle from retrofitting their homes and reducing their emissions with electric vehicles to saving money on energy with solar panels and other low carbon technologies.
The lender recently launched a specialist green mortgage and created its Tandem Marketplace, a hub for consumers to find sustainable and energy efficient products and services.
