The society has committed to embedding sustainability across all its business areas and reducing its impact on the environment.
Coventry Building Society has become an official Signatory of the UN Principles for Responsible Banking, a single framework for a sustainable banking industry developed through a partnership between banking organisations worldwide and the United Nations Environment’s Finance Initiative.
The society has committed to embedding sustainability across all its business areas and reducing its impact on the environment.
The Principles for Responsible Banking set out the banking industry’s role and responsibility in shaping a sustainable future and in aligning the banking sector with the objectives of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement.
Steve Hughes, chief executive at Coventry Building Society, said: “These principles align perfectly with our purpose and ambition.
"We are determined to make a positive impact on the environment and wider society and deliver a better future for our millions of members and their communities across the UK.
“Running our business sustainably and with the long term benefit of our members in mind doesn’t just make sense now, it has been central to the success of our society for more than 130 years.
"Now more than ever, it’s vital that everyone and every organisation takes an active role in preserving our world for future generations.
"We are proud to be able to make this commitment and work alongside other like-minded banks and building societies across the world to help drive this agenda forward.”
