The Society has introduced a series of market-leading mortgages and investments. The recently launched Offset mortgage has proved particularly popular.
Universal is also preparing to move its branch in Newcastle city centre to newly designed premises on Hood Street. Kevin Robinson, Universal’s chief executive, said: “This is further proof of the Society's commitment to improving and developing our services. Our branch network is an integral part of our future, and as a mutual Society we are very much involved in the communities we serve.
“Although we offer products and services through Universal Direct - our postal and telephone facility - many of our customers prefer a more personal service and we pride ourselves on ensuring our service meets and exceeds their expectations."
