Williams is a former deputy director-general of the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) and his appointment will involve contributing to the overall business strategy and monitoring the business performance of Stonehaven’s equity release portfolio.
Williams, currently part-time executive director of the Intermediary Mortgage Lenders Association (IMLA), said: “Equity release will experience phenomenal growth in the UK. Stonehaven has taken a very innovative approach with product development and with the commitment it has shown to improving the quality of product information provided to IFAs, and as a result, to homeowners. I am pleased to be joining a team focused on setting new benchmarks for equity release at such a pivotal time in market development.”

Williams also holds a number of executive and non-executive positions as well as undertaking individual assignments for a number of government agencies, professional and trade bodies and individual firms.
He stood down as deputy director-general of the Council of Mortgage Lenders at the end of September 2006. At the CML he had overall responsibility for the policy and research and information teams within the CML and was specifically responsible for the Sustainable Home Ownership initiative, the Shared Equity Homebuy scheme with the government and for Basel 2.
Prior to joining the Building Societies Association and Council of Mortgage Lenders as head of research and external affairs in January 1994 he was Professor of Housing Management at the University of Wales, Cardiff and before that deputy director at the Chartered Institute of Housing with responsibility for education, training and research.
He previously served as a board member of both the Housing Corporation in England and Tai Cymru in Wales, the regulatory and funding agencies for housing associations in England and Wales as well as a number of government advisory boards in both countries.
He is currently chair of Thames Valley Housing Association, a non-profit housing provider with assets of around £500 million and an annual turnover of £60 million, and has recently been appointed as board member of ConsultCIH, the non-profit consulting arm of the Chartered Institute of Housing.
