Lynne has replaced Richard Davey who retired from the Board at the end of the society's AGM on 18th April 2012. Davey had been a Board member for six and a half years and vice chairman for the past five years.
Charlesworth, who joined the society's Board in 2006, has extensive experience in risk management in the financial services and property industry. She has worked within the building society sector holding a number of roles at the former National & Provincial Building Society before becoming group risk manager of the Abbey National Plc following its takeover of the society.
In 1998 Lynne founded a property and asset management business and is now joint managing director of a private investment company, St James Investments Limited.
In her role on the Yorkshire Board Lynne currently chairs the group risk committee and is a trustee of the society's pension scheme. She also undertakes a customer champion role, overseeing the group's policies and practices on treating customers fairly on behalf of the Board.
Ed Anderson, chairman of Yorkshire Building Society, said: "Richard made an excellent contribution to the Board during his time with us and I would like to thank him both personally, and on behalf of the society, for his commitment and support and we wish him well for the future.
"I am delighted that Lynne has accepted the role of vice chairman. Her background of working within the building society sector and the Board oversight role that she holds for the society's TCF policies give her tremendous insight and make her an excellent candidate for this position."
