Pallas Capital appoints Owles chief risk officer

Non-bank commercial real estate lender Pallas Capital has appointed Robin Owles (pictured above) as chief risk officer – a move that reinforces its focus on strong governance and transparency within its operations.

Owles joins the firm with extensive experience in senior risk roles at Commonwealth Bank, EY, and UBS Investment Bank. Her background covers operational risk, compliance, technology, cyber, and data risk, with a history of managing complex regulatory environments across global and domestic financial institutions.

In her new role at Pallas Capital, Owles will oversee the development and refinement of the firm’s risk and governance frameworks to meet evolving industry standards and regulatory demands. Her leadership is expected to support the company’s sustainable growth and enhance internal regulatory oversight. Owles will report to Pallas Capital chairman Patrick Keenan and will work closely with the origination and distribution teams to drive risk-conscious strategies.

Pallas Capital focuses on structuring debt and equity finance for borrowers seeking funding for commercial and residential properties as well as development projects. Since its inception, the firm has arranged over 730 transactions with a total value exceeding $5.1 billion. Approximately $2.8 billion has been repaid, and Pallas Capital’s current investment portfolio stands at over $2.3 billion across more than 300 loans and other investment vehicles.

“I am thrilled to join Pallas Capital during this pivotal period for non-bank lending,” Owles said. “As the industry grows and matures, so too must our approach to risk. This means further strengthening existing frameworks to prioritise governance and prepare us for future regulatory developments, ensuring we remain ahead of the curve in an evolving landscape.”

Dan Gallen, chief investment officer at Pallas Capital, welcomed Owles’ appointment, saying her extensive expertise in risk management and her approach to regulatory compliance will be invaluable as the company expands its presence across the Asia Pacific region.

“Her ability to navigate complex regulatory landscapes with integrity aligns with our vision for sustainable growth,” Gallen said.
