Tropical Cyclone Ilsa slammed into WA Friday with winds gusting to a record 289 kilometres per hour
ANZ has announced that it will provide financial support to customers and businesses in the areas of Western Australia impacted by Tropical Cyclone Ilsa.
Ilsa slammed into Australia’s northwest coast Friday, with winds gusting to a record 289 kilometres per hour, according to a report by NBC News.
The cyclone crossed WA’s Pilbara coast as a Category 5 storm, but weakened to Category 2 as it moved inland, NBC News reported. The worst of the storm’s damage appeared to have been in Pardoo, 150 kilometres east of Port Hedland, according to ABC News.
ANZ is making a range of immediate financial support measures available for its retail and business customers impacted by the storm, including:
- Short-term payment relief on home loans, credit cards, personal loans and some business loans (interest may still be charged during that period)
- Waiving fees for restructuring business loans
- Waiving fees for accessing term deposits early
“We are thinking of those impacted by Tropical Cyclone Ilsa overnight and over the coming days,” ANZ general manager for Western Australia Kathleen Jahour said Friday. “We have special staff available to discuss how we can support our customers during this time, including short-term payment relief on a range of products, such as home loans and some business loans. Our Port Hedland branch is open and our dedicated staff are available to assist the community.”
