Bank partners with Community Housing Ltd to build homes in Southeast Queensland

ANZ has announced it will provide financing to Community Housing Ltd to build 156 social and affordable homes across Southeast Queensland.
The project, backed by the Queensland government’s Housing Investment Fund (HIF), aims to address housing needs in the region. Community Housing, a national not-for-profit housing provider managing over 11,000 properties, including more than 1,200 in Queensland, will lead the project.
The new homes will be spread across three sites in Redbank, Waterford West, and Miles, with a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom dwellings. These homes are designed for individuals over 55 years old, supporting independent and active lifestyles for ageing residents.
This initiative adds to ANZ’s ongoing efforts to boost social and affordable housing in Queensland. The bank has supported the development of 1,129 homes in the state through various partnerships and financing arrangements under the HIF. In September 2024, ANZ was a key financier for Tetris Capital and Community Housing’s delivery of Queensland’s largest social and affordable housing precinct for seniors in Cairns. The bank also supported Tetris Capital’s development of 483 affordable dwellings in key growth areas, benefiting young families, couples, and multigenerational households.
“Community housing providers play an integral role in housing outcomes through their delivery of new housing supply and their demonstrated best practice in tenancy management,” said ANZ institutional head Mark Whelan (pictured above left). “We are proud to be working in partnership with a national provider like Community Housing to support the delivery of more social and affordable homes in Queensland.
“ANZ is committed to increasing the supply of social and affordable housing in Queensland and across Australia, with a target to fund and facilitate $10 billion of investment in more affordable, accessible and sustainable homes to buy or rent by 2030.”
Community Housing chief executive Danny Dracic (pictured above right) described the initiative as a significant step in addressing housing challenges in the state.
“This initiative marks a pivotal moment in Queensland’s strategy to support greater housing supply across the state,” he said. “The replicable model, created in partnership with the Queensland government and supported by ANZ, offers scalable, sustainable solutions for the future of social and affordable housing across the state.”
