"I started when I got reprimanded at school assembly for taking a day off school to go and watch the Springboks (South Africa’s national rugby team) play my local team. To rub salt in the wound, the Springboks won. Went home that night, looked under situations vacant and decided banking could be a good thing. My career in banking started the following week."
BDM in the spotlight asks a different BDM the same seven questions – giving you a weekly insight into the lives of some of the top BDM’s in the country.
How often do you see brokers in a week?
I would normally see approximately 15 brokers one on one each week.
What do brokers want most from you?
When brokers ring or email it’s because they want help with a query or a problem and need that help quickly. I’m normally able to help within about 2 hours.
What is your favourite part of the job?
Providing solutions to brokers to help them help customers.
What distinguishes the best brokers you deal with?
They are organised and take the time to find out policy and process before submitting complete applications that result in one touch approvals. Their deals go through more quickly with a great conversion rate.
Describe your ideal weekend.
The ideal weekend will always include a game of golf, and a dinner with family or friends. Over summer we live outside and give the BBQ a great workout. Sunday afternoons will often include a drive to the beach or the Hinterland for lunch.
How do you like your steak done?
Medium rare, with lots of pepper sauce.
