This week's ING Australia BDM for Victoria has been in the industry for a decade.
ING Australia BDM for Victoria, Geoff Murphy, has been in the industry for a decade.
BDM in the spotlight asks a different BDM the same questions – giving you a weekly insight into the lives of some of the top BDMs in the country.
How often do you see brokers in a week?
I connect with my brokers individually each month due to the intimate size of my portfolio, however some of the more “high-volume” brokers I would be in contact with daily. Being a deskbound BDM enables me to provide real-time solutions to my broker partners who are generally very familiar with ING products and policies.
What do brokers want most from you?
Responsiveness, certainty and reliability.
What is your favourite part of the job?
My brokers are passionate about providing excellent customer service to their clients, knowing that I have a hand in that process is very rewarding. There is nothing more fulfilling than knowing you have helped a customer finance their dream home or build on their investment portfolio.
What distinguishes the best brokers you deal with?
Passion in providing an excellent customer experience and never settling. My top brokers are very tenacious and will call out something that is unjust or not customer centric.
Describe your ideal weekend.
As long as I’m with my partner, everything else is a bonus.
What’s the strangest lending scenario you’ve ever encountered?
One of my brokers had a client that wanted to do a cash out against his own home to go on a whale-saving expedition to the Antarctic! The client’s passion for the whales is admirable.
What's your top time saving tip and how much time does it save you?
I allocate a set time to do particular tasks and won’t allow any other distractions, i.e. email or phone to get in the way. I have done this all throughout my career and I live by it. It allows me to maximise my working hours and achieve more than most.
How do you like your steak done?
Cooked by a chef medium rare with a great bottle of wine.
Every Wednesday we’ll feature a different BDM from across Australia. If you’d like to be included, please email the editor.
