This week's ANZ BDM has been in banking ever since her job during uni as a part-time teller.
ANZ BDM for NSW, Sornkin Sairlao has been in banking since the GFC and loves every minute of her role.
BDM in the spotlight asks a different BDM the same seven questions – giving you a weekly insight into the lives of some of the top BDM’s in the country.
How often do you see brokers in a week?
90% of the time I am on the road seeing qualified brokers with appointments booked and accepted well in advance.
What do brokers want most from you?
Sound credit knowledge to assist with the structure and submission of complex deals. Being responsive, visible, patient and having good listening skills in order to provide a solution and deliver the result.
What is your favourite part of the job?
Every day is a different day. Delivering the unachievable results, overturning credit decisions, getting the 1st application from a broker and turning that into an ongoing relationship, these are all challenges that motivate me and I am hungry for more! Best of all, my brokers and my colleagues make me laugh every day!
What distinguishes the best brokers you deal with?
They understand their customers’ needs and place their customers to lenders according to policies and niches. They have a structured process and they advise their customers of the process and what to expect in order to provide a good customer experience. They communicate with their customers and keep them updated with the status.
Describe your ideal weekend:
Enjoy outdoor activities with a group of friends or with my family; end the night with a nice dinner, a glass of wine and a movie. NO washing up, cleaning or unpacking.
What’s the strangest lending scenario you’ve ever encountered?
We lent to an 82 year lady. YES we did. ANZ does not discriminate against age, as long as they can meet serviceability and they have a good exit strategy.
How do you like your steak done?
Juicy, medium rare with cracked pepper and butter on top, hot English mustard on the side and a glass of red next to it. YUMMO!!!! I am soooo hungry now. Where can I find steak at this hour????
