One of the winners is the first woman to receive the honour since 2014
As the dust settles from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Australian mortgage industry has realised that some of the changes of the last two years have been far from negative - such as flexible working conditions, technological solutions to reduce reliance on physical documentation, and faster turnaround times. Some have responded to these changes better than others – and now Mortgage Professional Australia (MPA) is celebrating this year’s best commercial brokers, who have thrived and settled high-value commercial loans in the past year.
MPA recognised the top commercial brokers in Australia for 2022, in association with La Trobe Financial, by inviting mortgage brokers across the country to submit their figures from the past year, focusing on the total value of commercial loans settled, the number of commercial loans settled, and the proportion of loans in the following areas:
- Commercial real estate;
- Equipment and asset finance;
- SME lending;
- Debtor finance;
- Unsecured business lending; and
- Development finance.
Brokers also provided the number of support staff on their team, their number of years as a commercial broker, and their aggregator details – verified by their aggregators. Afterwards, the MPA team based the final broker ranking on the total value of commercial loans they wrote for the last 12 months.
Among this year’s winners are:
- Son Pham – Rethink Financing
- Ian Robinson – Robinson Sewell Partners
- Larry Zhou – Link Capital Finance
- Cameron Perry – Perry Finance, Melbourne Finance & Equity Group
- Marwan Rahme – Kanebridge Capital

“With record numbers of commercial loans being written, it is more important than ever for brokers to explore different options with lenders they trust, who can provide them with the education and knowledge necessary,” said Michelle Bannister, senior executive, head of distribution, at La Trobe Financial.
Bannister also highlighted Isabella Constantinou, of Simplicity Loans & Advisory, for being the first woman to receive the top prize since 2014.
