It prepares support for real estate professionals ahead of CPD compliance deadline

With three months remaining before continuing professional development (CPD) becomes mandatory for Queensland real estate professionals, the Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) said it is working to support its members through the transition.
“We advocated long and hard for CPD to raise the levels of professionalism of all practising real estate professionals across Queensland,” said REIQ chief executive Antonia Mercorella. “We’re committed to seeing it through to fruition.”
The state government’s Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has introduced the new CPD requirements, which take effect from June 6, 2025. Under the framework, all licensed real estate professionals — including agents, property managers, auctioneers, and business brokers — must complete two approved CPD sessions annually, based on the anniversary of their licence or registration date. The OFT has made resources available, including an online calculator to help professionals determine their CPD schedule.
The CPD program aims to keep industry professionals informed on legislative updates, best practices, and market trends while promoting professionalism and ethical business standards.
Mercorella said REIQ is preparing its training resources to help professionals meet their new obligations.
“We’re readying our training resources to meet the new CPD obligations to make staying compliant as straightforward and simple as possible for professionals,” she said.
She added that REIQ, as the state’s peak industry body, is well-positioned to deliver CPD programs tailored to real estate practice. The institute plans to offer a range of learning options, including in-person events, live online courses, and on-demand video sessions.
“We’ll also have tools to track completed training so that professionals can easily ensure they stay ahead of the new benchmark,” Mercorella said.
“Our goal is to make the CPD process as smooth as possible, so real estate professionals can focus on this as an opportunity to enhance their skills and service. We’ll release further details on the REIQ’s CPD training options in due course, ensuring professionals have everything they need to meet their requirements with confidence.”
