Agents collect donations for appeal
Real Estate Institute of Western Australia agents came together to collect donations for The Salvation Army Christmas Appeal this week.
“Each year REIWA supports the appeal through its Community REInvest program, collecting donations through participating offices and delivering them to the Salvation Army headquarters,” said REIWA CEO Cath Hart. “This is always well-supported and while this year people may be feeling the effects of cost-of-living increases and interest rate rises, they have dug even deeper to help those in need.
“And it’s not just through the donation of Christmas presents; they’ve given everyday items like nappies, baby formula, washing powder and long-life milk that will help beyond the festive season.”
The donations were collected at REIWA’s head office and 57 real estate agencies across Perth and regional WA. They will be used to provide Christmas gifts and hampers to those in need.
Hart said several REIWA agents who supported the appeal shared personal stories.
“There was a young property manager who said her parents didn’t have much when she was growing up and she and her brother always looked forward to the arrival of the Salvos Christmas hamper,” Hart said. “She really got behind the appeal, enlisting the support of surrounding businesses – and her office was overflowing with donations.”

Another agent had a friend who used to get the hampers and said they were grateful that the community’s generosity made a difference to their Christmas, Hart said.
“And another young agent mentioned his mother, who is now a very successful agent, and was a single mum who relied on Salvation Army hampers at one point. He understood the value of giving to the appeal and was very enthusiastic about taking part,” she said. “It just shows that anyone could need help at some point in their life, and the work the Salvation Army does is extremely important. We thank everyone who supported the appeal and helped spread some extra joy this Christmas.”
