Announcement comes via Twitter, Facebook
In a shock move National Australia Bank has been forced to close over 600 branches, ATMs and business centres following what is believed to be an extortion threat.
Earlier this afternoon NAB announced on Twitter and Facebook that it was taking the tough decision to close its entire branch network – believed by reports to be the result of a bomb threat against its East coast branches.
The Australian Federal Police have been informed, and the bank is currently carrying out searches of its premises. The bank was unwilling to comment on reports that extortionists were demanding Bitcoin payments to prevent a blast.
UPDATE 3.40PM: Unfortunately we have had to close our branches temporarily due to a physical security threat.

This includes commercial offices where they are co-located with branches. ATMs located onsite at a branch have been taken offline. https://t.co/fcDwDQKs2u
