ANZ adds scams awareness to education program

ANZ has introduced a new scams awareness module to its flagship financial education program, MoneyMinded, aimed at helping community professionals support clients in identifying and protecting themselves from scams.

The new module is available to over 8,000 accredited MoneyMinded coaches across Australia. It is part of ANZ’s broader effort to enhance public awareness of scam threats.

“Scams continue to present a significant threat to the financial wellbeing of Australians,” said Janet Liu, head of social impact and community partnerships at ANZ. “Through our new MoneyMinded scams module, we hope to further inform and educate people by providing practical skills that can assist them to stay ahead of cyber criminals.”

The scams module offers practical lessons on recognising various scam types, including investment scams, dating and romance scams, phishing scams, remote access scams, and employment scams. It is delivered through a mix of animations, prompt cards, guided coaching, and participant handouts.

MoneyMinded, ANZ’s financial education initiative, is designed to help adults improve their money management skills, knowledge, and confidence. Community professionals can apply to become accredited MoneyMinded coaches to use the program for client education. Since the module’s launch, more than 250 coaches have been trained to deliver the new content.

In the year leading up to March 2024, ANZ’s security measures prevented more than $100 million of customer funds from being lost to cyber criminals.
