Be sure to get in your nominations ahead of the January 13 deadline
The eagerly anticipated Canadian Mortgage Awards (CMAs) are making their return on April 20, 2023, at Toronto’s Westin Harbour Castle – and nominations are open for the mortgage industry’s most prestigious annual event.
Mortgage professionals have until January 13 to submit their nominations in a range of categories which recognize the leading brokers, lenders, BDMs, service providers and more across the country.
Excellence Awardees will be announced across CMP’s online channels in February, with final winners to be revealed at April’s awards show and profiled in CMP magazine.
This year’s CMAs, the first to be held in person for two years after being staged as a virtual event due to COVID-19, saw a huge audience gather to raise a glass to the mortgage industry’s best and brightest.
What it means to win at the CMAs
Natasha Alli (pictured top) of First National Excalibur, who came away with the CIMBC Award for Lender BDM of the Year (Alternative Lending) at the 2022 awards, told Canadian Mortgage Professional that winning an award on the night had been an unforgettable moment.
“The energy in that room was electric,” she said. “I felt like I was honestly at the Golden Globes. It was amazing to see all your hard work be recognized by the individuals that you deal with on a day-to-day – it’s pretty special.
“It makes you feel valued and like you’re doing something right. It’s always nice to be acknowledged and feel appreciated.”
Equally memorable, Alli said, was being joined by colleagues, peers and counterparts to connect in person and share the moment during an event that welcomes mortgage professionals from across the country.
“I have the most supportive coworkers and colleagues, and everyone was on their feet, clapping and screaming. It was incredible, the support from them – but even [from] my broker partners that were there [too]. It really makes you feel appreciated and well supported.”

Alli described the win as a “defining moment” in her career, and one that helped boost her profile and reputation at a relatively early stage in her mortgage industry journey.
“It was a pivotal moment for me, because it just widened my network and gave me exposure to people that I feel like otherwise I would never have met,” she said, “and industry people who have very senior titles were acknowledging and recognizing me. It has obviously helped propel my career forward.”
Being recognized as one of the mortgage industry’s standout performers at the CMAs is no small achievement – and for Alli, a central factor behind winning the award was stepping out of her comfort zone, as well as putting together a strong marketing strategy to increase her visibility.
“I got comfortable with being uncomfortable and doing things that I normally wouldn’t have,” she said. “And just honestly, being very present. I was all over social media. So my face was out there, my name was out there. I really tried to be forward facing and it paid off for me.”
How can nominations be submitted for the CMAs?
It couldn’t be easier to submit a nomination for the leading independent awards program in Canada. Simply click here to select whichever category you’d like to submit an entry for, following the directions to enter your details and those of your nominee. Make sure to include a brief summary of why you feel each nominee deserves to be recognized in their category.
Categories showcase the top brokers, brokerages, BDMs, lenders, underwriters, and service providers for their outstanding achievements and the leadership they’ve shown over the previous 12 months in the mortgage industry.
Award categories are divided into brokerage awards, broker awards, lender awards, and industry awards.
The glitzy ceremony will open with a cocktail reception, followed by the awards ceremony and dinner banquet – with a post-awards celebration rounding off proceedings.
