Alberta Mortgage Brokers Association chair believes that women’s industry contributions are irreplaceable
With women having steadily established a firm place in the Canadian mortgage space, Pam Pikkert of the Alberta Mortgage Brokers Association believes that it’s time for women professionals to approach their work with the confidence that befits their irreplaceable contributions to the industry.
“Own your awesomeness, lady,” Pikkert said in a judging panel interview after the release of Canadian Mortgage Professional’s “Top 50 Women of Influence” list for 2023.
“So many women I encouraged to put their names forward for this list deferred, thinking they were somehow not fully qualified to be on this list – which is just ridiculous, because I know [what] they have accomplished… The women in this list are among the future leaders of the industry.”

Putting a spotlight on one’s current and previous successes is more than welcome in an industry that takes competence seriously.
“Highlight the exceptional things you’re doing,” Pikkert said. “Own that, and be proud of the work you’re doing in these areas… Sometimes, you just do what you have to do; sometimes, it’s just about the women who stepped up.”
As for women who are looking to enter into the mortgage industry, Pikkert said that nothing beats the value of advice from seasoned women professionals.
“I would advise them to join the ‘Women in the Mortgage Industry’ Facebook group,” Pikkert said. “There are a lot of women in there who will happily step into a mentorship role.”
