New partnership expands financing options for Canadian farmers

Farm Lending Canada (FLC) has announced a new commercial arrangement with BMO, aimed at enhancing financing options for the agricultural sector through the AgriRoots Diversified Lending Fund LP. The fund, managed by FLC, specializes in mortgages secured by agricultural real estate, offering farmers and rural businesses alternative capital solutions.
Robb Nelson, CEO of Farm Lending Canada, expressed optimism about the partnership, highlighting its potential to strengthen financial options for Canadian agriculture. “We’re thrilled that BMO has joined our network of supporters who have placed their trust in our fund and our goal to support Canadian agriculture by providing options for securing Alternative Capital for farms and agri-businesses,” Nelson said.
According to a news release, the AgriRoots Diversified Lending Fund LP is available to accredited and eligible investors through the AgriRoots Diversified Lending Trust. Investors can participate using both registered and non-registered funds.
Nelson noted the dual benefit of the initiative. “Having versatile and sustainable financing choices is critical for a healthy future for Canadian farmers,” he said. “There are tremendous opportunities for investors in the Canadian agricultural space. At the same time, you are helping to serve growth and expansion in one of Canada’s most important sectors.”
The new commercial arrangement with BMO is expected to significantly expand FLC’s reach in the alternative agricultural mortgage market throughout 2025. The organization aims to facilitate smoother transitions for farmers from alternative financing to conventional lending facilities.
