The move shakes up the leadership team of one of the country's largest banks
Toronto-Dominion (TD) Bank has announced a major change at the helm of its Canadian business banking unit with Paul Douglas, who served for nearly two decades as business banking head, set to be replaced upon his April retirement by head of treasury and enterprise strategy Barbara Hooper.
Company veteran Douglas is to assist with Hooper’s transition into the new role after April, according to The Globe and Mail, which reported that the change was announced by TD CEO Bharat Masrani in an internal memo on Wednesday.
Hooper became a member of TD’s senior executive team in September 2021, having joined the company in 1994. She initially served in the Wholesale Bank division before joining the Corporate Development team in 2006 and taking over as head of that group five years later.
Masrani hailed Douglas’ lengthy spell at the company and 47-year banking career in the note, praising the executive for having “mentored and developed hundreds of bankers, assembled a fantastic leadership team, and [leaving] behind a tremendous bench of talent that will continue to drive growth.”
His post-April role with the company will be a newly created consulting position that will see him serve as a special adviser to Masrani.
